Every restaurant has a story to tell. Sometimes it's expressed through the menu, sometimes through the architecture, and sometimes through the artwork guests experience the moment they walk through the door. For Fiola Mare, that story began with its name. Inspired by the meaning "Daughter of the Sea," The Floral Guru designed a custom stone and shell feature wall that reflects the restaurant's connection to the waterfront while creating a memorable first impression for every guest.
Creating a Custom Restaurant Feature Wall

Rather than selecting artwork to hang on the wall, the goal was to create something that felt like it belonged to the space itself.
The concept became a sculptural profile of a woman emerging from the shoreline, with flowing hair formed from shells, coral, and natural stone. Every material was selected to reinforce the restaurant's coastal identity while complementing the refined interior. The finished installation functions as both artwork and architectural feature, giving guests a focal point from the moment they enter the restaurant.
Hand-Placed Stone and Shell: The Craft Behind the Installation

Every element of the installation was placed by hand. Smooth natural stones were carefully arranged to define the face, while shells, coral fragments, and textured materials were layered to create movement throughout the composition. Rather than relying on paint or printed graphics, the artwork is created entirely through the placement, colour, and texture of natural materials. From a distance, the installation reads as one complete image. Up close, the craftsmanship becomes apparent as each individual stone and shell contributes to the overall composition.
Designing Restaurant Installations That Tell a Story
The most successful hospitality installations don't simply decorate a space—they become part of its identity. For Fiola Mare, this feature wall reinforces the restaurant's connection to the sea while creating an arrival experience that feels unique to the brand. It's designed to become something guests remember long after their visit. Projects like this reflect The Floral Guru's approach to hospitality design: creating custom installations that are rooted in the story of the space rather than following design trends.

Frequently Asked Questions: Custom Restaurant Installation and Commercial Art Design
What is a custom feature wall installation for a restaurant? A site-specific artwork conceived and built specifically for a space — making it inseparable from the guest experience rather than simply decorative.
What materials were used in the Fiola Mare installation? Hand-placed natural stones, shells, coral fragments, and marine-inspired materials — all selected and placed by hand to create a cohesive coastal composition.
How is a hand-placed stone installation different from other wall art? It's built material by material, without templates or printed surfaces. Each element is positioned in relation to the ones around it — creating a level of craft that can't be replicated digitally or mechanically.
How long does a custom restaurant installation take? For large-scale feature wall installations, we recommend starting the conversation at least 10–14 weeks before your target completion date.
What does a custom commercial art installation cost? Every installation is priced based on scale, materials, and complexity. Reach out through our contact page for a custom proposal.
