La Vie’s terrace at The Wharf is known for its seasonal transformations, but for the winter installation, the goal was very specific: create something that felt undeniably wintery without leaning into overt holiday tropes.
Rather than designing for a single moment in December, we wanted the installation to feel intentional well beyond the traditional holiday window — something that could live comfortably through January, February, and into early spring.
A Winter Palette, Not a Holiday Theme
From the start, the design direction focused on winter elegance rather than Christmas imagery. The palette leaned cool and soft — whites, silvers, muted greens — creating a space that felt calm, elevated, and refined.
Snow-dusted greenery, layered textures, and subtle sparkle replaced anything overly festive or literal. The result was a terrace that felt seasonal but timeless — chic instead of themed.
Elevation Through Restraint
The installation incorporated winter foliage and textural elements overhead and throughout the space, paired with crystal chandeliers that added warmth and light without overpowering the design. The balance was key: enough visual interest to feel immersive, but restrained enough to let the restaurant’s architecture and atmosphere lead.
Nothing felt temporary or novelty-driven. Every element was chosen to feel intentional and long-lasting.
A Collaborative Approach
As with La Vie’s other seasonal installs, this project was a true collaboration. We worked closely with the La Vie team to define the overall vision and design direction, while their team brought in complementary accents that completed the space — including furniture styling, layered textiles, and fur throws that added warmth and comfort.
The result was a cohesive environment where florals, decor, and furnishings worked together seamlessly.
Designing for Longevity
Winter installations can easily feel dated after the holidays pass. This design was created to avoid that entirely. By focusing on mood, texture, and palette rather than specific symbols, the terrace remained relevant, inviting, and visually striking well into the colder months.
It was winter — elevated, elegant, and quietly impactful.
